VIBE / DESCENT-WORLD
DAY AT THE PARK

Eleven pages worth of organising on the DW forums, a 16,500 square foot skate park, and a drinking team that has a racing problem; combine all of these elements together with riders from across Scotland networked together through Descent - World and what was formed was one of, if not the largest gatherings of Descent-World forum members for a Day Out.

Previous Descent-World Days Outs have focused on getting the forum members out from behind their monitors and together in the great out doors in locations such as at the World Cup downhill course at Fort William or to the renowned tracks at Innerleithen. This event however was to take a slightly different twist with the year old indoor Factory Skate Park in Dundee being the venue. Not only does the park boast some incredible riding but also an awesome restaurant, shower and locker room facilities along with an IT Suite/Internet café. Another perk is the video editing setup too, for those that fancy making their own videos. Personally, I'd just hold out for "the" release of 2006; Wheels of Fortune 2 ; The Epic Ride Continues (it's coming, honest!)!

Back to the story;
Riders from across Scotland travelled with their weapons of choice for this four hour session at the Factory. The majority of the rides were varying in wheel diameter; from the retro Mini-Burner right up to the 26"; wheeled big boys adamant to prove they could tear up the delights of the park and then keep up on a now infamous Vibe night on the town that was to follow. The great thing about the Day Out; session was that it saw veterans to the Factory mix it up with newbie's to small wheels as well as those that had never ridden a ramp in their life. But by the time the end of session was called everyone was stoked and eager to get their name down for the next one. On the other hand Vibe Racing's Sketchy Jim (of Fort Bill WC 06 streaking fame) was looking forward to resting his bruised and bashed tackle (as seen in Earthed 3) after some harsh bails over the large box.

Sketchys wasn't the only one going big; the amount of riders pushing themselves and show casing smooth riding and huge styled airs through all aspects of the park made for some visual delights for the spectators like myself. One of many stand out riders from the session, was 12 year old Alex from Perth on his DMR who was going big all night and proved that there is a place in the park for all wheel sizes, although I still don't fancy trying to chuck my v10 about in there!

The Comedy Crash of the night award is a joint prize after a particularly sore looking head on collision! This concussion inducing crash occurred after Gordo dropped in off the quarter while Dale crossed over the box and the conflicting line choices resulted in a bit of carnage, thankfully Jp's first aid skills were at hand but not required.

With four hours passed and the riding done and dusted it was time for the Vibe Racing crew to take those brave enough from the DW forum for a Stella fuelled night on the town. Epic dance moves and ashtray contents eating competitions ensued with a spot of re-tiling of a kebab shop for good measure (don't ask!) all washed down with a few more jars of the SDA race winning drink; Stella.

Once again huge props to Jp for getting the ball going and keeping it going and coordinating an excellent Descent-World forum Day Out; at the Factory Skate Park, Dundee. A big shout out to all the guys and gals from the forum that travelled to Dundee for this get together and made the great atmosphere of the evening! Keep an eye on the Descent World forum for the next Day Out and hopefully see you at it!
